New Zealand Snow Movie

Filming began on the Nick Hyne produced and directed New Zealand Snow Movie (working title) this month. With nearly 10 years experience of filming snow sports I am one of several camera-operators DoPs on the project. I've had two days shooting in Queenstown including a night shoot at Coronet Peak and a full day at the Remarkables.

For the Coronet shoot we shot a number of scenes whilst the the night ski session took place and also had a jump set up for our exclusive use once the mountain closed. This was crucial to be able to achieve the shots we required for a number of reasons; our talent required a long run in to be able to get the necessary speed to hit the jump as well as snow mobile tows from the landing to the top of the run in. For this night shoot I was the second angle with Marcus Skin on the A-Cam following the riders into the jump. We also shot an aprés scene outside the base building where my role was to light the talent. I went with a simple but effective set-up of one 4x4 bounce on a C-Stand, an Aperture 120d2 and the newly released Aperture Amaran 100D. Some BTS photos are below.
